Treatment and referral

Before contacting me, ask for a consultation with your General Practitioner/huisarts. He/she can help you evaluate your symptoms and problems and, if needed, refer you to a “Gespecialiseerde GGZ” professional. I can offer a psychiatric evaluation, psychodynamic- and psychoanalytic psychotherapy and, if needed, (supportive) psychopharmacological treatment. You can contact me for a diagnostic evaluation and treatment concerning psychological/psychiatric problems like depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, phobias, traumatic experiences, problems related to your work of relations but also for personality issues, such as low self esteem or lack of confidence.

If you are an Expat or The Netherlands is not your country of origin, you have most probably experienced how migration has many emotional consequences. Adjusting to a new country and a different culture, leaving family and friends back at home is easier said than done: also in this case I can offer professional help. I can be of help if you are experiencing problems within your personal and/or professional development, in your inter-personal relationships, and also in case of bereavement, a life-threatening or chronic illness, separation and identity problems. Our consultations are absolutely confidential and your privacy is strictly guarded.

Start

You can contact me either by phone or e-mail. During our first contact I will briefly discuss with you whether there is an indication and/or a possibility for treatment. If I think I can be of help, we will meet for a couple of consultations (intake) in order to better understand your problems and symptoms. After the intake phase I will discuss with you my opinion about your problems and my recommendation for the best way to help you. If we decide we can work together, treatment can usually start immediately or within a short time.

Since June 1 2009 is it compulsory to provide proof of identity when seeking medical help/treatment. When meeting for the first time I will ask you for a valid identity document (Passport, Identity Card or Driving License).

During the intake phase and possibly during treatment I will ask you to fill in some questionnaires via Embloom. Unfortunately only some of them are available in English. This also within the R.O.M. – Routine Outcome Monitoring, diagnostics and monitoring.

Due to the Dutch Health Insurance Law (Zorgverzekeringswet) it is compulsory to provide anonymous information regarding (main) diagnoses the Dutch Health authority (Nederlandse Zorg autoriteit – NZa).

Invoices concerning your treatment will be billed to your Health Insurance company, according to the new system Zorg Prestatie Model (since 01-01-2022) (see also Costs).

If you decide not to proceed any further with me as your therapist, I will briefly inform your General Practitioner and the invoice will be billed to your Health Insurance (zorgverzekeraar).

Treatment Plan

If we decide to start with treatment, I will write down a “Treatment Plan”: after discussing it with you I will ask you to sign it. The “Treatment Plan” comprises a short description of your problems, a classification according to the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), and the form and goals of your treatment.
